What PS Clip Colours Does

PS Clip Colours is a companion to PS Clip Jockey. Clip Jockey links your clips into master and slave groups. Clip Colours lets you give each of those groups its own colour, so every clip in a group reads the same at a glance across your arrangement.

It lives in the track header. Right-click a clip, go to Extensions, then Clip Colours, and you get the master and slave groups on that track. Pick a colour for each master group, hit Apply, and every slave in the group inherits it. It is a per-track setting, and it remembers the colours you chose between sessions, so your project opens back up looking the way you left it.

Colouring was originally baked into Clip Jockey's own code, but we pulled it out into its own tool on purpose. Some producers colour by clip, some by track, some not at all. Rather than force a colour on you automatically, Clip Colours makes it a deliberate choice: turn it on when you want it, leave it out of the way when you do not.

The palette is the real Ableton one. We calibrated it directly from Live's own clip colour data rather than trusting the third-party colour charts floating around online, which we found to be wrong more often than not. So the swatch you pick is the swatch you get.

Everything Clip Colours Can Do

Colour by Group, Not by Clip

Reads the master and slave groups Clip Jockey creates on the selected track and lists them for you.
Pick a colour for each master group and every slave clip in that group inherits it on Apply.
Per track, so each track can carry its own colour scheme without touching the others.

The Real Ableton Palette

The full Live clip colour palette, calibrated directly from Live's own colour data so the swatch you pick is exactly what lands on the clip.
Named swatches so you can find the colour you want quickly.
Shows the colours you last chose, so reopening a group picks up where you left off.

Remembers Between Sessions

Your colour choices are saved with the track and persist between sessions.
Close the set and reopen it and your groups are still coloured the way you left them.
Change your mind any time: pick a new colour, hit Apply, and the whole group updates.

How to Get the Ableton Live 12 Beta

Every ProducerStack Extension, runs on the Ableton Live 12 beta. It will not load on the standard release of Live 12. The beta is free to anyone who already owns Live 12, and it installs separately, so your stable version of Live stays untouched.

  • Go to Ableton's beta page at ableton.com/en/beta and sign in with your Ableton account.
Create a free Centercode account if you do not already have one. This is the portal Ableton runs its beta testing through.
  • Request access to the Live 12 public beta. Invitations are granted gradually, so you may wait a short while after signing up.
  • Install the Live 12 beta (12.4.5 or higher). It sits alongside your normal Live install, it does not replace it. Extensions require Live 12 Suite. Any Live 12 edition can join the beta, but the Extensions feature itself is Suite only.
  • Open the beta, enable Extensions, and you are ready to install Clip Jockey.

Two things worth knowing before you start. Sets saved in the beta cannot be opened in earlier versions of Live, and beta software is a work in progress by its nature, so keep backups of anything important.
