The Tech House Essentials Sound

Tech house runs on movement. Not a static chord that sits there, sounds that evolve across the bar, shift under filter pressure, and feel different every time you play them.

Every preset in this pack was built around that principle. The FLEX Macro is wired to drive the other seven macros via an envelope, move it and the whole character of the sound shifts. The filter opens, the modulation tightens, the body of the sound changes. It is one knob that controls the performance, not just the timbre.

The wavetables go further. The PS CASIO CZ101 and PS JUNO wavetables are analogue captures taken directly from original hardware, the machines that defined UK electronic music from the late 80s through the 90s. That character is baked into the oscillator layer, giving these presets a warmth and weight that purely digital synthesis cannot replicate.

Do these presets work with the original Serum, or only Serum 2?

Serum 2 only. These presets use Serum 2's wavetable engine and macro architecture, they will not load correctly in the original Serum. If you are still on the original version, Serum 2 is a free upgrade for existing licence holders via Xfer.

What is the FLEX Macro and how does it work?

FLEX is the master performance macro. It drives the other mapped macros via an envelope, so moving a single knob changes the overall character of the sound, filter position, modulation depth, movement, all from one control. It is designed for live performance and session use, not just preset browsing.

What genres work with these presets?

Built specifically for tech house, but the sounds cross into house, minimal techno, and melodic techno naturally. The basses are the most genre-specific, tight, mid-focused, movement-led. The leads and plucks have broader application across electronic genres.

Are these presets 100% royalty-free for commercial releases?

Are the wavetables custom, or are these standard Serum 2 factory waveforms?

Custom. The PS CASIO CZ101 and PS JUNO wavetables are analogue captures taken directly from original hardware, not software emulations, not library samples. These are unique to this pack and included with the download. They are the reason these presets have a different character to anything built from Serum 2's factory wavetables alone.
